Road Trippin'

Man.... There just isn't enough time. What a week it has been already!

In the past week, I have:

  • perfected my no-knead bread (recipe in my next post! Stay tuned!)
  • got the sewing machine out and decided to give my crochet hooks a break
  • got my business cards in the mail
  • AND received a surprise baby plant for my garden!

As if I needed more to do, at the end of the month I'm going on a road trip by Greyhound to see my little sister graduate high school! Okay, I guess I should be a little excited about that. I think my family is more excited about it than I am - one doesn't simply "miss" Missouri after living in Colorado for any amount of time.

Why would a high school choose Memorial Day weekend as their graduation weekend?? Oh right, because it's Missouri. I almost forgot.

I am excited to see family and friends though. My bestest most awesomest friend is coming up to visit, too! Her little girl Eden is just the cutest thing. I realize that everyone says that, but I'm telling the truth. =P

Now, what you all came for... PICTURES!! Just kidding!

Snow on the peaks, and Poco
My favorite part about Colorado is the ever-changing scenery! After a snow this week (yes, it's May), took this picture from my 'backyard', you can see a large portion of the Front Range. You can also see the top half of Poco, my little furry buddy out doing his business.

Patch of evening primrose in my backyard
These little beauties grow wild in my 'backyard'! This patch is right about where Poco is standing in the first picture. Got this shot one evening around 10 pm when letting him out to potty. I know it's evening primrose, but the exact species I'm unsure of. They sure are pretty to look at though!

Oh look, you can even see some prickly pear cactus in the corner! I just love the different wildlife that can be found here in Colorado Springs. After growing up in the same boring county in Missouri until age 20, I REALLY appreciate diversity. I've taken evening primrose oil as a supplement, and seeing it grow wild is just too cool!!

**Just to clarify... I'm saying 'backyard' in quotes because it's really just a field behind my apartment complex. Not quite a backyard, but hey - what can ya do.**

So now that your nature appreciation has warmed up a bit... The star of this post has finally arrived! Check out this awesome thing my fiance brought me!
Mystery baby cactus or succulent of some sort, hens and chicks maybe?
I did my research, and I'm pretty certain this is a variety of "hens and chicks". My fiance is a landscaper, and occasionally he gets lucky and finds little gems like this. Fortunately for me, the property owners want the plants removed, and I want them to LIVE! Specifically in my garden! So, he wrapped it up in his sandwich wrap (improvise - it has to be done, and sometimes it gets weird) and brought it home to surprise me! Let's see if I can keep it alive!

What I really want is one of those spiraling aloe plants - the ones that grow in a very obvious Fibonacci spiral as they age. Those are SO COOL, but they are also SO EXPENSIVE! One day.... =P
